CERN finds the Higgs boson?

Postby Taffy » Wed Jul 04, 2012 08:48

Looks like some web tech accidentally posted the video ahead of the announcement today:

http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/tomch ... -probably/

I know this will probably get a "meh, so what?" from the vast majority of the population, but I think that what this represents (the continuing improvement of particle physics and our understanding of the structure of our universe) is tremendously exciting, not to mention awe-inspiring. I love this stuff.

Very cool. Thanks for posting that.

If it's the real thing, this discovery might be one of the few positive things about our age that will still be viewed as a milestone hundreds of years from now.

I lost a lot of respect for CERN after that supposed faster than light fiasco a while back. "Einstein Was Wrong!" I remember people proclaiming. I recommend that everybody wait a little bit.

I heard this one yesterday.

The Catholic Church wouldn't let the Higgs boson in, but he said, "Without me you can't have mass!"

I guess this was the real thing. Hats off to all the physicists through the years that worked on and theorized about this.
