Maple House Restaurant in Sanzhi

Postby Beaker » Mon Apr 30, 2012 12:35

Click here for the Maple House listing in the Taiwanease Directory.

This place is awesome. It has been open for about a year, so not many people know about it yet. They serve up Western style breakfasts all day (the Canada D'eh is amazing and the French Toast is also quite nice) as well as sandwiches and more typical western fare.

It is right on the Qiǎnshuǐwān 淺水灣 beach. And I mean right on the beach.

You don't happen to know when they're open, do you? I really want to try this place, but twice I've bicycled by on weekend mornings (not that early: 9am or so?) and found it closed.

They used to open at 7, but not anymore. The place has kinda turned into the Sanzhi foreigner bar, so they are normally open until 2AM. Normally they open at 10AM.

Ah. The Taiwanese Western breakfast place that isn't actually open when I'd normally eat breakfast: oh well, I guess that's the way the market works here. Thanks!

We went there a couple of weeks ago for brunch. Sitting on the back deck on a nice day with great food right next to the ocean - perfect.

I like it because they have Taiwan Beer on tap. My girls like the French Toast.

What makes the "right on the beach" thing so nice is that Maple House has a great patio with steps down to the boardwalk, which runs the length of the beach. Last Sunday, we had brunch there, and then the girls splashed around in the water. It's a very shallow beach, and it's very clean. Definitely a good Sunday afternoon kind of thing to do. (Oh, and there's an outdoor tap to clean the sand off when you're finished!)

Click on the pic below for the video.

Thanks for the "slap in the face wake up call". It was only yesterday that I was visiting the hospital right after the birth. Holy Shit they are that big now? I now have to add the "grandpa" emoticon to my sig.

Heh. I took the Maple House "9 Pretzel Challenge" today, and failed miserably.

Here's how you play. First, buy a bottle of Grolsch. Then, in the space of a minute, you must eat (and swallow) nine small-ish pretzels - no beer to wash them down. If you win, you get FOUR more bottles of Grolsch beer on the house.

If you lose, well, you don't have to pay for the pretzels.... :idunno:

Oh, and don't forget the Maple Diner has more than just a great view and a friendly owner - they also have great food!

Blueberry pancakes (There are lots of blueberries, you just can't really see them from the top):

We went up there a few weeks ago, they really need to sort out the back, as this place has some serious potential, it's just a bit rough, especially as it appears that half of the back "garden" appears to be an ash tray.

The food was pretty good for the money, but I think I'll get the pancakes next time, as they look a lot nicer than the BLT sub I had.

I was up there a couple days ago. It is now a garden:

I also highly recommend the breakfasts.

Did you look at the left of the railing? There are the two tables, but just below there are tons of cigarette buts... yuck

Yup... Was green and clean when I went. It could have just been a lucky day after they cleaned tho.

Well, at least that's good news, a few more tables and chairs and they'll have a nice little place out there
