Forget about paying for experiences at places like Babyboss. Head to the Oceanic Culture and Art Museum, right next to Jilong train station. Free for kids, TWD50 for adults. Until Dec 11, there is a delightful 5-D, 20-minute movie introducing a Chinese scroll depicting river life in China 400 years ago, an awesome boat simulator where kids can dress up in real Captain uniforms and steer the ship out to sea (overlooking the real harbor), Viking dressup and photo opportunities, a hands-on simulation of sending a container to the port of your child's choice, and even more packed into three floors of a building. Most things are in Chinese and English, and the assistants are VERY helpful. (After Dec 11 is a new exhibit, not sure what it is yet.)

What does 5-D mean? I remember that the first dimension is a dot, the second dimension is a line, the third dimension is space and the fourth dimension is time. 5-D sounds pretty magical!

I'd suggest checking the weather if you want to walk around the area a bit. It's been really wet and I'm not sure when the rain is going to stop. There is a burger king, macdonalds, starbucks and lots of local eateries right across the alley from the museum, then you can walk around the new boardwalk to the Cultural Center or the Miao Kong Night Market.

I actually went there again a couple of days ago to see their new exhibit. It's all about dolphins and whales and well-worth a visit. It is the same for one year. 100NT for adults, free for kids. The cafe is now open, too. However, be warned their current 3D movie is a little disturbing for some kids. It's a cartoon re-enactment of a devastating earthquake, fire, and tsunami. Bridges breaking, buildings collapsing, people drowning... It changes in April to a dolphin movie, which should be a bit nicer for the kids. Oh, and if grumpy-old-man volunteer is there, stay away from him. All the ladies warned us about him.

Dolphins and whales? Running for a year? I'm SO there! The kid will LOVE that. Thanks.
