The other day my 8yo told me, "When I grow up, I'm going to manage my money really well. First, I'm going to buy beautiful clothes, and beautiful shoes, and beautiful jewelry, and I'm only going to have five bags. Then I'm going to buy a really nice apartment."
After a few minutes, she asks, "Mommy, if you and Daddy buy a bigger, nicer house and get old and move into the place for old people, can I have your house? Then I can live in it with my boyfriend and have lots of babies."
And later on, "Mommy, when I grow up, can I just not have a job? 'Cause I just want to have fun, and enjoy my life, and not have to work."
I don't know where she gets these ideas. I'm super frugal, definitely not into 'stuff', try to live simply, think you should be married before you have babies, and for as long as they've been around, have done work I loved. Too much Star World/Hannah Montana?

She's not getting the ideas from you, but from the world around her. It's a challenge all parents face. I think parents that want to instill Christian values in their kids feel it even more strongly; how to let our children (and ourselves) be in the world but not of the the world?
We have a television but we decided long ago that we wouldn't have cable. There's really no need, and our daughters spend most of the day doing things other than watching TV, which is good.
But probably your kid is just playing. It's fun to pretend different scenarios, and it doesn't have to mean anything. She might decide that she wants to be a teacher in a third world country someday, who knows?
Hi My 3 years old is waiting to get big. "When I am big and you get small (!!!! Change should be both ways- I grow so you get small), I will tell you NO, don't do this. I will drive the car and make you sit in the baby-seat, will prepare milk for you". Nice imaginations... I can see how it could be when she is 8-10 years... God!!!
